Tyler hein, Director

Tyler’s commitment to CAN’s mission is grounded in her childhood experience growing up below the poverty line in the rural South, where, after the loss of her mother, she was raised by her grandmother and witnessed firsthand the vital role of community support in keeping families stable. Her connection to Washtenaw County deepened during her PhD at the University of Michigan, where she mentored youth through SummerWorks and developed a strong respect for the Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor communities. Through years of research with families across Detroit, Toledo, and Chicago, she gained insight into how fragmented systems often fail to reflect real family needs, leading her to focus her career on program evaluation in youth mental health. Today, as a leader at TRAILS, she oversees research and evaluation for a large-scale K–12 mental health initiative, bringing expertise in data strategy, outcomes measurement, and stakeholder communication.
