Richard wieland, Director

Wieland_Richard.jpg
Richard’s commitment to CAN reflects a long-term focus on supporting Washtenaw County nonprofits that drive measurable economic mobility. He first connected with CAN through his leadership of the Elizabeth Dean Fund, partnering with staff on neighborhood improvement efforts in communities such as Bryant and Arrowwood, and has since deepened his engagement through significant matching gifts and ongoing involvement in understanding CAN’s model and impact. His perspective is shaped by a childhood in a family with limited formal education, where he experienced how meeting basic needs creates a foundation for long-term opportunity—an insight that now guides his philanthropic priorities. Professionally, Richard brings expertise in property management, accounting, and business law, along with strong relationships across local government and housing sectors. As Chair of the Elizabeth Dean Fund and a participant in the University of Michigan Ross School of Business Board Builders program, he contributes strategic insight, governance experience, and a robust network to support CAN’s continued growth.
