Summer Camp Volunteer

Educational Summer Camp Volunteers partner with elementary-aged children and youth to prevent summer loss of learning and build meaningful relationships as a mentor and role model.

In 2020, CAN's Educational Summer Camps will operate every Monday through Thursday, 10:00am-5:00pm from June 22 through July 30 at most locations (details may vary by site).

Volunteers can help in the morning and/or in the afternoon:

10:00am-12:00pm: Volunteers assist with morning academic rotations (math, reading, geography) and build meaningful relationships during snack and free times. While the campers are developing their academic skills, volunteers are also role modeling important social-emotional skills, such as resilience, positive self-esteem, self-awareness, responsible decision making, and relationship skills (to name a few)!

Morning rotations are every morning, Monday-Thursday.

2:00pm-4:00pm: Volunteers partner with campers to explore the 2020 Thematic Curriculum: Michigan. This volunteer opportunity is associated with the CAN Art & Design program. Learn more about this program here.

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old to come without an adult chaperone, complete a background check (if 18+), and complete CAN's online training for Summer Camp Volunteers.

To have time to build meaningful connections with CAN's children and youth, volunteers should commit to volunteer for 2 hours a week for all 6 weeks or for 2 full weeks, Mon-Thurs.
