CAN is hiring 25 Summer Associates!

What do CAN Summer Associates do?

 

Designed to combat summer loss of learning  CAN's Educational Summer Camps are a free summer program for children and youth who are under-resourced at CAN's community centers and partnering locations in Washtenaw County.

 

Summer Associates, along with CAN directors, operate 6-week Educational Summer Camps for students rising into the 1st-4th grades, which include:
 

  • Math, reading, and geography rotations in the mornings 
     

  • Exploring an awesome project-based, thematic curriculum in the afternoons. This summer's curriculum is about past, current, and future technology in Ready. Set. Tech!
     

  • Intentional role modeling of executive function skills, adding tools to students' social-emotional toolbox, and providing filling meals during the day
     

  • Time to play and build meaningful relationships with their peers and positive adult role models

 

Desired Qualifications:

 

  • Experience working with children and youth

  • Patient, friendly, fun, and firm

  • Passionate about community-building 

  • Confident in giving instruction and classroom management

  • Available full-time, mid-June through mid-August

  • Must be 18+

 

When are CAN's Educational Summer Camps?

 

Two-week Summer Associate Training: June 11-22

CAN Educational Summer Camps: June 25-August 2

Summer Associate Wrap-Up Week: August 6-10

 

How much does this opportunity pay?

 

This work opportunity is provided to CAN through AmeriCorps, so the financial stipend is also through AmeriCorps. The living allowance will most likely be about $1,026/month with an educational award of $1,252 at the end of the summer.

I can't commit to this work opportunity, but I am interested in volunteering. What does this opportunity look like?

 

  • Volunteers can choose to tutor in the mornings (math, reading, and geography rotations) from 10am-12pm once a week for all six weeks, or for two full weeks, Monday-Thursday.

 

  • Volunteers may also help in the afternoons between 1pm-5pm, but the afternoon schedules are less consistent/may vary depending on the day.

 

AmeriCorps VISTA, A Year of Service

 

Commit to working with a nonprofit dedicated to partnering with families from under-resourced communities.

Qualifications:

  • Must have at least a Bachelor's Degree

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills

  • Self-directed worker willing to take initiative and risks

  • Able to work in a flexible environment

  • Able to commit to 40-hour work week from
    June 2018 - June 2019

  • Experience in education/curriculum development, marketing, communications, or social work (preferred)

 

AmeriCorps VISTA will work specifically on retooling and repackaging CAN's intellectual property using skills in curriculum development, marketing, communications, and design.

  • Experience in resource development, marketing & communications, and interpersonal relations skills (preferred)

AmeriCorps VISTA will assist CAN with developing and launching a major donor campaign, produce outreach and campaign materials, identify target prospects, match and coach board members with target prospects, refine and update social media communication methods, and more.
